Some of My Favorite Things

During my time off, I love camping and hiking with my family. Although my favorite season is summer, the best time of year to spend in the “great outdoors” is the fall. The weather is nice and the scenery is even better. Below is a photograph of my siblings, mom, and I at the headwaters of the Mississippi River, which we visited on a hiking trip in the summer of 2022.

I would never consider my self to be an avid reader. I actually love to read, but only if is of a very niche genre and type. I am a huge fan of the author Chuck Palahniuk. Palahniuk is known for writing books in fiction, horror, and satire. My favorites of his works include Fight Club and Choke. I love the satire, wittiness, and jabs at how screwed our society is. I also really love the book The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger. Even though the book is way old and considered a classic, I find it relatable and the themes are still very relevant.

Another thing I am very passionate about is music. Although I am not musically talented (I’m a terrible singer and can’t read music to save my life), I really love to listen, collect, and attend live music events. I love rock music, specifically 90s and early 2000s alternative. Some of my favorite bands include The Toadies, Everclear, and 311. I, also, like to refer to myself as the “trashy” version of a vinyl collector. I collect CDs. This is because it goes much better with the aesthetic and era of music I listen to. The people listening to Sublime when it was fresh, weren’t typically listening to it on vinyl. I just want to be accurate and let’s be real it’s cheaper, more accessible, and the quality and artwork is still pretty rad. I also love the atmosphere of concerts. I attended my first concert in February of this year at xBk in Des Moines, IA. It was a small Chicago based indie group named Ax and the Hatchetmen. Since then, I have gone to a few more concerts. The most recent was this September. I saw Greta Van Fleet on their Starcatcher World Tour in St. Paul, MN.

If you can’t tell already, I love pop culture and the media. And, what else are missing from the list: movies and t.v. I love watching movies especially with my friends and family. Some of my favorite movies are Drop Dead GorgeousOvernight Delivery, and The Cable Guy. I love satirical and dark comedies. My choice in t.v. shows are also reflective of that statement. My favorites include It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, WorkaholicsMalcolm in the Middle, and Daria.
